Youth United is a nationwide Habitat for Humanity initiative that mobilizes young people, ages 5 to 25, to fund and build a house with Habitat for Humanity.  In Durham, youth have united the past three years to raise the $50,000 home sonsorship amount for a special family.  The 2006-2007 school year was Habitat of Durham’s first Youth United. Hundreds of youth from local schools and youth organizations successfully funded and built a Habitat home in partnership with the Holland family.  During the 2007-2008 school year Durham’s youth did it again and funded and built a home in partnership with the Serrano-Otero family.  The 2008-2009 Youth United partner was the McRae family. During the 2009-2010 school year, the youth of Durham with partner with the Roberts family. Youth United has grown to include over 20 schools and youth organizations and is lead by a youth leadership committee. Check out our Meetings and Activities calendar for details on our next meeting. 2009-2010 Youth United Partner Family
Felicia Roberts is not only a member of the Habitat family, she is a member of the Durham Public Schools family as well! Felicia is a bus driver for Pearsontown Elementary School and Rogers-Herr Middle school and occasionally substitutes in the special needs classroom. She has two sons, 12-year-old De-Jahrie who attends Rogers-Herr and 6-year-old Kam-Mahri who attends Pearsontown. Both boys like being outside and playing sports. Youth United will fundraise throughout the school year to raise the $50,000 home sponsorship amount.  Construction will being on the Roberts family home on February 6, 2010!
