Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Durham Habitat’s work! As a volunteer, you will be able to help with a variety of projects including painting, landscaping, framing, site cleanup, and other miscellaneous tasks. With your help more Durham families can access affordable homeownership!
Never volunteered before? No problem, no experience is needed! We will provide on-site training for each shift.
- Before you volunteer, please read the on-site safety protocols below. Next, you will need to complete the volunteer application and create an account through our volunteer system, VolunteerHub.
- For step-by-step instructions on how to complete the volunteer application and create an account in our system, please check out this volunteer user’s guide for VolunteerHub.
- Interested in volunteering with us on a regular basis? Please email volunteer@durhamhabitat.org for more information.
Community Service Inquiries:
Please note, our location does not provide court-ordered community service hours. We encourage anyone seeking community service opportunities to visit the Habitat Restore: trianglerestores.org/volunteer or call 919-744-2425.
Please be aware of the following Durham Habitat safety protocols:
We will continue to prioritize safety on Durham Habitat worksites. (Updated January 2024)
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate on the worksite.
- No one should come to site if they have been exposed to or are displaying any symptoms related to a contagious illness.
- Volunteers are required to pre-register through VolunteerHub.
- We request that all volunteers bring their own water bottle which can be refilled on site.
Worksite Safety
Our construction crews follow OSHA guidelines for all on-site work. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate on the worksite. Safety equipment and training is provided to volunteers prior to working with construction tools and ladders. If a volunteer finds they are uncomfortable with a task they should let a site supervisor know so they can be reassigned to other work.
We recommend new volunteers watch this Habitat worksite safety video prior to their first shift.
If you have any questions about on-site safety, please contact volunteer@durhamhabitat.org.
