Celebrating 40 Years: Habitat for Humanity of Durham Inaugural Pillars of Promise Gala

Join us on Friday, December 11, 2026 at The Duke Hilton on Hillsborough.

Doors open at six. From 6:30 to 8:30 we gather for dinner and a program built around the people who made five hundred homes possible: the partner families who put in the sweat equity, the volunteers who framed the walls, and the donors and sponsors who made the math work for households this market has priced out. Gala tickets are $125.

Then at eight o’clock, the room changes. Casino Night runs until eleven — blackjack, roulette, craps and poker, a full bar, live music, and a crowd that would rather build houses than talk about it. We call it an evening of games, giving and good fortune. It is also $125, and you do not need a gala ticket to come. Show up at eight, play a few hands, have a drink, and go home knowing you helped build a house.

Most people want both, so we made that easy: $200 for the full evening, fifty dollars less than buying the two tickets apart. Black tie for the first half, good fortune for the second — Full House: From Black Tie to Blackjack.

40 Years of Home, Community, and Hope

Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Durham has worked to transform lives and communities, building nearly 500 homes for families in need of safe, affordable housing. Guided by our mission and supported by volunteers, donors, and community partners, we’ve been a beacon of hope for countless families in our city.

Together, we’re creating a Durham where everyone has a decent place to live. Join us as we honor our legacy and build a brighter future for generations to come

Forging Forward

As we celebrate 40 years of progress, we are more committed than ever to forging forward, building on our legacy while embracing new opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation.

Together, we will continue to build not only homes but also hope and opportunity for our neighbors. Thank you for being a part of this journey. Here’s to many more years of building a brighter future, side by side.

Our History

In October 1985, Durham Congregations in Action, an organization of 24 local churches and faith communities, founded our organization.

We completed construction of our first home in 1987. And now, 40 years later we’ve built nearly 500 homes and served thousands of neighbors through our New Construction, Repairs, and Homeowner Services programs.
