Special Volunteer Needs:
Lunch Bunch! We seek volunteers to provide lunch at least once a year for construction volunteers. This is something all ages and income levels can do! Can you put together a few PB and J's in your kitchen? Could you buy a couple pizzas at Dominoes? Could you ask some ladies from your church to make a casserole in their kitchen? Or even ask a local restaurant to donate some food? Then you can brighten a volunteers' day, boost moral on the worksite, and give volunteers energy for the afternoon work! Groups vary from less than 10 to more than 20, but just do what you can. Please contact Patt Hatcher, Volunteer Coordinator, at e-mail  to sign up for any Saturday from 11:45-1pm! And thanks!

Family Services Intern We're looking for an intern in the Family Services department. This department helps recruit and select new Habitat homeowners and maintain communication with current homeowners.

Family Selection Committee: This committee is now seeking members for the very important job of approving and supporting new Habitat homeowners. Time commitment is one monthly meeting and a few hours a month conducting home visits of potential homeowners. Contact Mary Brown, Family Services Director, at [ email ] if interested.

What do Durham Habitat Volunteers have to say about their experience?

"I appreciate that you have gone out of your way to honor highschool volunteers.  I've really enjoyed my experience at Habitat this summer (despite having to get up early!) and feel like I've taken a lot away from it. " Alex, 17-yr-old Construction Volunteer

"Thanks so much for the volunteering opportunity. It turned out to be especially enjoyable because several of the volunteers were Duke students, and a few were even in the majors that I am associated with (Psychology and Biology). It was fun chatting with them while we worked.
The site supervisor (Donesha) was very knowledgable and helpful, and the experience was most enjoyable. " Jef, Duke Professor

"I’ve learned so much! When I started I could barely change a light bulb by myself. Now I have new skills. But it’s also important to me to know I’m helping someone that needs a hand up, not a hand out. I wake up on those hard, chilly days more excited about Habitat than I ever was about my career. Here the customers are more important and money isn’t. It’s the most worthwhile thing I could be doing." Kenzie, "Geezer" construction volunteer
