The Perry Family and the Durham Community
We are so proud to partner with Lafayette and his family and can’t wait to see the future that is built with this stable environment to call home. We invite you to join a Durham Habitat partnership.
Meet Lafayette
“I’ve been volunteering with Habitat for 30 years”, Lafayette Perry exclaimed. “I started in Chapel Hill and then when I returned to Durham Reverend Daniels got me out on the site again!”
When you meet Lafayette you can tell he is proud of the work he has done. With a huge smile on his face, he is always ready to get to work. He finished his first 100 sweat equity volunteer hours in just 6 months, and now he is working with our site supervisors to build his own home.
“I never thought a single man could buy a house from Habitat. When my daughter applied I found out they made all sorts of houses and she encouraged me to apply. This is as much her house as it is mine!”
While Lafayette is the only one moving into this adorable two bedroom home this fall, we doubt he will ever get lonely. With 15 brothers and sisters, in addition to two grown children, Lafayette’s home will always be filled with family and friends in the years to come.

The House
The Perry Family home is being built by the Habitat site supervisor Jim. The home is being built in partnership with a sponsor with the Durham Community. Jim is one of the newest site supervisors at Habitat and is building his second Habitat Home.
