Women Roofers & Build

Women Roofers

Please note: this program is currently on hiatus as we work through our current line-up of two-story homes. (We do not have volunteers or our staff work on the roofs of homes taller than a single story for safety reasons).

Experience in roofing is not necessary. All you need is a willingness to work above the ground and a desire to build relationships with other construction volunteers! If you are interested in joining and/or learning more please contact the Volunteer Team at volunteer@durhamhabitat.org.

The Women Roofers currently install a new roof every couple of months.

HISTORY: In October 2015, the Women Roofers from Rutherfordton, NC, who were featured in People Magazine, came to Durham to train a core group of women to roof homes with Habitat of Durham. Check out this news clip to learn more about this crew of women who have been roofing together in North Carolina for over 10 years!

Women Build Week

Women Build is an international Habitat effort to build homes that are funded and constructed by women. Women Build empowers women to take leadership roles in construction and learn new skills while building a home with a hardworking family.

Each year, Durham Habitat celebrates Women Build Week with volunteer events around International Women’s Day (March 8th).

Email the Volunteer Team for more information about signing up or bringing a group.
