Playhouse Build
Durham’s youngest residents are getting a place to call their own thanks to Durham Habitat’s Playhouse Program. The Habitat Playhouse Program is a collaborative effort of local corporations, the community and Habitat volunteers to build and donate playhouses to local families and service organizations that work with children. Thanks to the support of Triangle area businesses and partners, the Playhouse Program has built more than 170 playhouses, raising over $425,000 for Durham Habitat since 2013. Durham Habitat requests a donation of $3,500 for each playhouse to offset the cost of building materials and to help fund the construction of actual Habitat construction projects. The Playhouse Program is designed to handle groups of 12-15 members in a 6-7 hour build session that provides teambuilding opportunities with a service component — a great alternative to ropes courses or golf.

Youth Build
The Youth Build program allows community members aged 10 to 18 to volunteer with Durham Habitat and serve in the community. Participants in Youth Build events work alongside Habitat staff and crew lead volunteers to create and decorate gifts for new homebuyers. This program allows young volunteers to learn more about Habitat’s goal and initiatives while also making their own contribution.
Interested in a youth build?
School groups, faith groups, and community organizations are invited to schedule their own Youth Build days. Youth Build events with open registration are held periodically throughout the year.
