Located in Durham’s storied Southside, construction on this community of 10 homes began in August 2024. The land where the homes are being built was purchased by Durham Habitat from Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

When considering selling the land, the Mount Vernon congregation resoundingly chose to support affordable homeownership, recognizing the great value of transforming this land into a life-changing opportunity for the families who will live in the new development. At it’s completion, the development will contain six single family homes and four attached homes. This initiative will provide much-needed affordable homeownership opportunities in an area of the city that has become increasingly unaffordable.
