Building Blocks II
Completed: 2024
Number of Homes: 21
The construction of these 21 homes on Morning Glory Avenue and North Plum Street east of downtown Durham represented the second phase of the ambitious Building Blocks initiative that resulted from a partnership between Durham Habitat and the Durham Housing Authority. Two homes in this community were built to ADA standards to accommodate families living with disabilities.

Built on land in the Edgemont neighborhood that was previously the site of the Few Gardens public housing project and had stood empty in recent years, these homes bring new life to an area targeted as severely distressed. The Durham Housing Authority used HOPE VI funds to pay for the subdivision of the lots, as well as infrastructure costs.
Durham Habitat partnered with the DHA to build on the homes, and to provide homeownership counseling and mortgage assistance to home buyers. Learn more about the Building Blocks partnership here.
