AmeriCorps Week

March 14, 2024

This week we recognize our Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps members through AmeriCorps week! In 2024, AmeriCorps celebrates its 30th anniversary and the more than 1.25 million volunteers that have served through this nationwide program.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a federal agency that brings individuals from all ages and backgrounds together with various organizations to face the nation’s challenges, including economic opportunities, disaster response, education, and more. Through this program, AmeriCorps members gain a hands-on learning opportunity that will allow them to strengthen both themselves and their nonprofit partners. Along with a modest living allowance, members receive various benefits including qualified student loan deferment and the Segal Education award.

Historic Ties

Thanks to the advocacy and leadership of Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn, Habitat for Humanity has been a foundational partner with AmeriCorps. We are deeply grateful to Carters, the founders of AmeriCorps and Habitat’s most famous volunteers, and recognize their ongoing legacy through our celebration of our AmeriCorps service members.

What is the Habitat AmeriCorps Program?

Habitat AmeriCorps members serve across the nation in both the office and the field. By assisting with everything from home builds and repairs to community engagement, AmeriCorps members play a huge role in making our homeownership program a success. Prior experience is not required – in fact, this Habitat AmeriCorps program is a great way to build lifelong skills, knowledge and confidence.
