When you volunteer at Durham Habitat, your work could be outdoors, or might involve projects on the interior of the home.
If it is raining or snowing, our site supervisors will have a plan to make sure it is safe to work. We have tents, heaters, and all manner of equipment to maximize our ability to work in most weather conditions.
With that said, safety is our number one priority. We will cancel a shift if our site supervisors feel that conditions are unsafe to build. If this happens, we will contact volunteers by email and/or phone.
For snow and other weather related events, we generally follow the City of Durham Government closings. If the City is open we are generally open, and if they are closed, we are usually closed.
If you would like to check the status of a build due to weather-related events there are two options:
- You can call our weather hotline at 919-682-0516 ext 7 for updates on operating status and build information.
- You can email our volunteer team here.
We will also continuously update our Facebook feed with any changes in operating status or build locations.
