The Hernandez Family Home

The Hernandez home is being built by the Habitat Site Supervisor Jerry. Jerry is a Habitat veteran who has also built homes as an AmeriCorps.  It is a two story home in the South Side Neighborhood being built in partnership with Duke Habitat, The Duke Office of Durham Affairs, Duke Chapel/The Congregation at Duke Chapel & Duke Alumnus Pradeep Baliga Class of 2006. Ace is an AmeriCorps member in her second year of service.

Habitat Success Stories

Lal is a Burmese refugee who came to Durham after stops in India and Thailand. Lal partnered with Habitat and the Durham Literacy Center to renovate a historic home in East Durham. “There is no more fear,” Lal said. “We won’t have to move again because the home belongs to us.”
