Habitat home to honor Pope Francis

Posted |

An anonymous donor has fully sponsored a Durham Habitat home to honor Pope Francis for his commitment to social justice and reinvigorating the Catholic Church. Pope Francis home

Our inspired donor hopes that this home will provide a unifying, celebratory opportunity for both Catholic and non-Catholic volunteers to work towards a common goal of developing strong communities and ensuring that the basic needs of our citizens are met. This is a common goal that Habitat of Durham embraces and embodies. We are committed to partnering with Durham families, volunteers, and donors. Together, we are working to break the cycle of poverty and build our community.

The Brouhard family will purchase the home in North East Central Durham to honor Pope Francis with a zero percent interest loan from Habitat of Durham. They have committed to an ongoing partnership with Habitat and are working now to earn their sweat equity hours, volunteer hours that are required in lieu of a traditional monetary down payment.

Habitat of Durham invites you and your communities to join us in building homes, hope, and community in Durham. There are weekly construction volunteer opportunities available on this home and several others. No advance construction experience or knowledge is required; closed-toed shoes and a positive attitude are all you need.

Please contact Jenn, at jmcfarland@durhamhabitat.org, to schedule a volunteer opportunity or share your support of this exciting partnership.

As Pope Francis says, "Work confers dignity."

Habitat Success Stories

Growing up in East Durham, Tora saw the neighborhood decline and bounce back. She was excited to partner with the Streets at Southpoint and Belk to build and purchase her own home in East Durham -- making her part of the neighborhood's revitalization.
