Belk Stores Partner with Durham Habitat

Posted |

Triangle-area Belk stores are partnering with Durham Habitat's Playhouse Program. Area stores include Belk Crabtree, Belk Triangle, Belk Cary, and Belk Southpoint.  The Habitat Playhouse Program is a collaborative effort of local corporations, the community and Habitat volunteers who together build and donate playhouses for local families and service organizations that work with children.

Belk has donated $2,500 for each playhouse to offset the cost of building materials to fund the construction of actual Habitat projects.  The finished playhouses will be on display at each participating store until Belk's "Charity Day," happening May 3rd. Following their public display, the four playhouses will be donated to the following organizations, SAFEchild, Marbles Kids Museum, Durham's Partnership for Children, and InterAct.

The Playhouse Program is designed to handle groups of 15-20 members in a 4-7 hour build session that provides teambuilding opportunities with a service component.

Thanks to the support of BelkNetAppBlue Cross and Blue Shield of North CarolinaGlaxoSmithKline and other Triangle corporations, the Playhouse Program has raised over $75,000 and has provided over 35 playhouses to area non-profits since its start last year. Monies raised through the playhouse program will provide needed start-up capital for Durham Habitat’s numerous affordable housing projects.
