Youth United began in Durham in 2006. Since then we have raised $150,000 and built three homes. Here are the families we have partnered with so far!
2008-2009 YOUTH UNITED PARTNER FAMILY
Ann McRae is a native of Durham, born and raised here! She is a Health Unit Coordinator at Duke Medical Center. Ann has two children, Carlessia and Quartez The McRae family home is in the Hope Crossing community in East Durham and was dedicated on Sat., May 16, 2009. This third Youth United home shows the community that the youth of Durham are dedicated to supporting affordable home ownership, and the program will grow even stronger in the coming years
2007-2008 YOUTH UNITED PARTNER FAMILY
Elizabeth Otero took a leap of faith and moved her five children from Puerto Rico to the United States in 1997 hoping to provide them with a better life. May 17, 2008 the Serrano-Otero family celebrated the completion of their new home located in Hope Crossing, Habitat’s community located in East Durham. This 31-home neighborhood is the first affordable green community in NC. The partnership with Durham’s youth was an incredible fit as their family, full of enthusiastic youth, helped raise funds and build.
2006-2007 YOUTH UNITED PARTNER FAMILY
Cynthia Holland and her family partnered with Durham’s youth and built their home which is located in Durham's North East Central neighborhood. Their home is in the Golden Belt Historic District and was built to preserve its historic look. Cynthia, her daughter Kimberly, her son Adriel (A.J.), and granddaughter Charkira, moved into their beautiful home in August 2007. The family continues to partner with Youth United.
