Repairs Program Apprentice

Habitat for Humanity of Durham is seeking a Repairs Apprentice to assist the Repairs team in restoring existing homes in support of Habitat’s affordable housing mission in Durham. The Repairs Apprentice will use this position to expand their skill set and utilize the opportunities provided to open doors to jobs. The Repairs Apprentice will report to the Repairs Site Supervisors and will work closely with the repairs management team and staff, AmeriCorps members and volunteers.

The two main goals of hiring a Repairs Apprentice are to 1) expand repair capacity and serve more Durham neighbors, and 2) provide job skills and training that will lead to better employment opportunities for the Repairs Apprentice. Along with the AmeriCorps staff, the Repairs Apprentice will assist the Repairs Site Supervisors in ensuring that assigned projects progress as planned and that worksites are safe and productive. The Apprentice will work as part of the Repairs team on larger projects, but, under the direction of the Site Supervisor, will also complete small projects independently. Consistent communication, teamwork and dependability will be critical to ensure this happens.

The Repairs Apprentice should be a passionate advocate for Habitat and enjoy sharing their knowledge while on the job-site and when in contact with people outside the organization. The Apprentice is responsible for maintaining a professional and enthusiastic attitude on the job-site. The position will be located on construction sites throughout Durham and surrounding areas.
