Regular Building Crews

We have multiple regular volunteer crews that come out and help on site

The Geezers: The Geezers (self-titled) are a collection of regular volunteers (despite the name, there is no age requirement) who come out every week to volunteer in groups. The group is broken up into subgroups based on what type of work you are interested in. They typically come out every Thursday morning to help on site. They also all meet for lunch after the morning shift! For more information please email our volunteer email here.

The Wednesday Crew: Made up of a group from Mount Sylvan United Methodist Church (The Saints) and our Cabinet Geezers, these two groups come out on Wednesdays. The Cabinet Geezers specialize in…. cabinets and the Saints are jacks-of-all trades that do a little bit of everything!

The Carolina Arbors: The Arbors are a group of Geezers who live in the Carolina Arbor housing community. They have raised money and built a home this past year and know how to build an entire home! They typically come out on Fridays.

Crew Leaders: The crew leaders are our regular volunteers who come out throughout the build week. They are skilled enough that they can work independently or lead a small group of volunteers doing whatever construction the site supervisor needs, including but not limited to: framing, siding, trim, landscaping, painting, trim work, etc. There are multiple levels based on how involved leading volunteers the crew leaders want to be

If you would like to join, please email Laine at lstaton@durhamhabitat.org with your interest and which team you would like to be one. She will then connect you with the team leader.

Habitat Success Stories

Worth helped found Durham Habitat as part of his Bible study group. He has volunteered to build hundreds of homes, but if you ask about his role with Habitat, he will take no special credit, saying, “Habitat just fits in with who I am.”
