Family Selection Committee

The Family Selection Committee reviews and personally visits potential applicants to determine if they meet the criteria for Durham Habitat's homeownership program.  Members commit to at least one year of volunteer service.  The committee meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm. Office Support

Durham Habitat occasionally seeks long-term office volunteers, with great interpersonal and computer skills, who can make a regular weekday commitment.

The Habitat ReStore

Volunteer opportunities at the ReStore include:

  • Donation processing (accepting, sorting, cleaning, testing, and pricing donations)
  • Customer service (greeting customers and managing the register)
  • Office administration (answering phones, entering data, and clerical tasks)
  • General maintenance

Habitat Success Stories

Lal is a Burmese refugee who came to Durham after stops in India and Thailand. Lal partnered with Habitat and the Durham Literacy Center to renovate a historic home in East Durham. “There is no more fear,” Lal said. “We won’t have to move again because the home belongs to us.”
