Deconstruction

Durham HabitatThe Durham Habitat Deconstruction Program provides a fully-insured service for salvaging building materials from residential and commercial buildings.  This fast, friendly and affordable service saves materials from the landfill and provides clients with a donation receipt for a tax deduction.  Donated materials are sold in our ReStore to raise funds for building Habitat homes in Durham and Orange Counties.

Our services include:

Kitchen Strip: For a flat fee, professionally-trained staff carefully remove and haul away kitchen cabinetry and appliances, cap electrical wires, and clear away debris, leaving the kitchen ready for renovation.

Material Removal: Staff and volunteers remove structurally-sound building materials from residential and commercial buildings undergoing extensive renovation or demolition. Materials removed might include hardwood floors, doors, windows, cabinetry, lighting, lumber, plumbing, hardware and architectural elements.

Full tear-down: Staff and volunteers systematically deconstruct buildings slated for demolition, salvaging reusable and recyclable materials.

To schedule your deconstruction project, please email decon@durhamhabitat.org or call 919-682-0516.

Habitat Success Stories

Twenty years ago, Bob came to a Habitat construction site, and he's been volunteering since. "Framing is the fun part," Bob says, "but my favorite task is roofing." He also leads a youth group in making rain barrels for each Habitat home.
