Habitat for Humanity of Durham

One and a half years

It takes more than hammers and nails to build homes; it also takes office work.

As volunteers in the Durham office of Habitat for Humanity, the mother-and-daughter team of Jackie and Lindsey Pareis provides the hard work, organizational skills and technical know-how that every office needs.

Daughter Lindsey shreds documents, stuffs envelopes, and prepares information packets, providing, in the words of Anna Benfield, her volunteer supervisor, “a delightful presence in the office.”

Mother Jackie does complex database and document processing work and manages the construction volunteer attendance process.  She researches and implements projects, including the Belk Charity Day Sale, and has attended several events as a Habitat representative.

Both Lindsey and Jackie cheerfully step in to do whatever needs doing.  Their devotion to Habitat and their shared sense of responsibility make them a much-valued asset.  Thank you, Jackie and Lindsey, for helping Habitat and our community!

Habitat Success Stories

Growing up in East Durham, Tora saw the neighborhood decline and bounce back. She was excited to partner with the Streets at Southpoint and Belk to build and purchase her own home in East Durham -- making her part of the neighborhood's revitalization.
