Habitat for Humanity of Durham has named Blake Strayhorn as its next President/Executive Director. Late last year, the organization began a nationwide search. It brought forth scores of qualified candidates that met the organization’s board criteria for leadership, community engagement, housing development and nonprofit organization effectiveness.
“We are delighted to have found such an experienced leader with deep commitment to the Habitat mission,” said Don Stanger, Board Chair. “While the Search Committee reviewed applications from a number of capable individuals, Blake’s track record stood out.”
Strayhorn, a longtime Triangle resident, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at UNC-Chapel Hill. He has extensive experience in many industries: banking, nonprofit, e-commerce and entrepreneurial business startups. He lives in Raleigh with his wife, Dell and two sons, Will and Thomas.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity,” Strayhorn said. “Habitat for Humanity has accomplished so much in Durham. There are still families in need of safe, affordable housing and I look forward to being a part of Durham’s transformational and sustainable community development.”
Strayhorn wants to continue building new homes and focus on rehabilitation and renovating existing properties. For the upcoming year, he said a main goal for the program is to continue collaborating with other organizations in the community.
