Habitat for Humanity of Durham, Inc. is prequalifying bidders for residential construction contracts of up to $10,000.
Some of the services typically sub-contracted by Habitat of Durham include:
Professional Services: Land Surveying, Engineering Field Inspections, Hazardous Material Testing
Labor Services: Clearing/Grading/Debris Hauling, Tree Trimming/Removal, Demolition, Hazardous Material Abatement – NC Certifications required, Landscape Grading, Truss and Roof Framing Installation, Roofing, Sheetrock Hanging and Finishing, and Painting.
Turnkey Services: Foundations - Monolithic Slab and Masonry Block/Brick Crawlspace, Termite Treatment, Electrical – NC License required, Plumbing – NC License required, HVAC – NC License and Demonstrated experience with Energy Star required, Alarm Wiring, Insulation –Demonstrated experience with Energy Star required, Gutters Installation, Tile/Vinyl/Laminate Flooring and Carpet, Driveway/Concrete Flat-work, Welding.
To prequalify, bidders must have:
- General Liability insurance of $1 million and Workers’ Compensation insurance in legally required amounts;
- Valid Trade License or Certification where appropriate;
- Ability to send and receive emails and faxes;
- Three (3) references; and
- Verification of relevant business activities for at least one year.

This round of prequalification closes January 15, 2012.
Prequalified contractors who do not respond to bid requests in a timely manner, who do not maintain pre-qualification criteria, whose performance is not timely, or who do not perform as contracted will lose prequalified status. Although prequalified status generally lasts 12 months, Habitat reserves the right to prequalify bidders at times and in manners that meet the needs of the organization. Prequalification does not guarantee future contracts. Additional requirements may be contained in specific requests for bids.
Small disadvantaged business enterprises, especially those registered with the City of Durham’s Department of Equal Opportunity and Equity Assurance are encouraged to prequalify.
