Steps to homeownership
The following steps outline the path toward homeownership with Habitat. The length of time to complete this process ranges from six months to one year.
Step 1: Review the eligibility requirements and general information on Habitat home ownership. Contact Habitat to learn more about owning a Habitat home (919.682.0516 or 215 N Church Street).
Step 2: Complete the pre-qualifying application that includes personal references and consent to a background check.
Step 3: If pre-qualified, complete the full Habitat home-ownership application.
Step 4: Host a visit from a representative of Habitat's Family Selection Committee.
Step 5: Receive approval from Habitat's Family Selection Committee and Board of Directors.
Step 6: Attend and complete Consumer Credit Counseling classes.
Step 7: Complete a minimum of 250 sweat equity hours building your home and other Habitat homes and make a payment of 1% to cover closing costs.
Step 8: Move in...congratulations, you are homeowner!
