Planned Giving

What will your legacy look like?

No matter your stage in life — whether you’re single, married, raising a family, or planning for your retirement years—it is important to reflect on the kind of legacy you want to leave. Your gift to Habitat for Humanity of Durham will continue our mission after your lifetime—it is your gift to the children and families in Durham.

Durham Habitat’s Legacy Society was founded to recognize the important role of planned gifts in eliminating poverty housing. By creating a planned gift for the future, you will join other members of the Legacy Society in building hope and providing Durham families with an opportunity for safe, decent and affordable housing.

Gift options

Support for Habitat for Humanity of Durham comes in many forms. Whether or not you can make a gift today, you can always leave a legacy of safe, decent, affordable housing by making a gift through your estate.

Options include:

  • Bequest by will
  • Gifts from retirement plans
  • Life insurance
  • Gifts of real estate
  • Cars For Homes
  • Gifts of publicly-traded stock or closely-held business interests
  • Charitable remainder trust
  • Charitable lead trust
  • Legal designation language

Gift management

Planned gifts to Durham Habitat will be placed in the Habitat for Humanity of Durham Fund at the Triangle Community Foundation. The Foundation manages the Fund according to its investment policies and subject to the scrutiny of the Foundation’s Investment Committee and Finance Committee of its Board of Directors.  Durham Habitat monitors the activity of the Fund through its liaison with the Foundation and receives distributions from the Fund as approved by the Habitat board to support the long-term sustainability of our work.
