Durham Habitat relies on generous neighbors, groups, faith communities, and businesses for each project’s start-up capital. Our home sponsors partner with our homebuyers to purchase building materials and provide volunteer labor for new homes and home repairs. Team building activities
Our ask of all groups who come to build with Habitat of Durham is that they consider what financial contributions they are able to make in addition to their gift of volunteer time. As you probably know, Habitat homes are built largely with volunteer labor. Volunteers offer a great cost savings Habitat’s construction budget. What may be less obvious is that we also require donations for things like land acquisition, materials purchasing, staff leadership, and trades work. While Habitat homes are sold with 0% interest loans, those loans are repaid over traditional 30 year mortgages. In order to build affordable housing to the scale that our community needs, we need donor dollars!
We have two great team building options:
1. Construction build days call for teams to learn an appreciation of the varying skills sets that their peers possess, while working together to build, rehab and repair homes in Durham. We can accommodate 10-20 volunteers per site for a suggested contribution of $2,500 and are happy to incorporate your organization's team building activities. 2. Playhouse Team building is a unique way to build community with Durham Habitat; we are one of only two affiliates in the country with this program. Teams of 15-30 volunteers transform a stack of building materials into a vibrant 5’ X 4’ playhouse. This team building project requires a financial contribution of $2500. After your build the playhouse is either raffled off or donated to a local non-profit chosen jointly by Habitat and your team. Percent of sales promotions
Retailers and restaurants, please consider choosing a special shopping/dining time period (day, week, month) and give a percentage of the net proceeds to Durham Habitat.
