Repairs Workshop (Part 3)

Home Depot

Part 3: Repairs Corps

Repair Corps is our partnership with The Home Depot Foundation to repair and renovate homes with military veterans and their families. Repair Corps is part of Habitat for Humanity’s larger veteran initiative through which veterans will be provided access to employment, volunteer, and housing solutions.

Approved Repair Corps projects include interior or exterior work performed to alleviate critical health, life and safety issues or code violations.

Repair Corps work may include, but is not limited to:

  • Roof repairs and replacement
  • Structural wall, or floor system, damage
  • Repairs to reinstate insurance or satisfy code enforcement
  • Handicap accessibility renovations
  • Asbestos, mold or lead abatement/remediation
  • Electrical, plumbing and HVAC
  • Minor upgrades such as painting, caulking and insulation

Eligible applicants for Repair Corps must:

  • Be a U.S. veteran who received an honorable or general discharge (verification of discharge status is required)
  • Live in the home as his/her primary residence
  • Demonstrate the need for a critical repair

Eligibility notes

  • The Repair Corps program is not available to widows/widowers of veterans.
  • Active duty military/military families are not eligible.
  • The home must be owned and inhabited by a Habitat board-approved family.
  • Projects may include existing Habitat homes, provided a qualified veteran resides in the home.

Loan Repayment

To the extent of the homeowner’s ability to pay, repayment of the loan is required. Repayment may be less than 100%, dependent upon the ability of the homeowner to repay this loan; however, repayment at some level is required.
