25th Anniversary Book

Building Hope Equity

25 Years with Habitat for Humanity in Durham, NC

by Florence "DeeDee" Riffe and Linda Barnett

Habitat is pleased to announce the completion of its 25th anniversary book, which is now available.  The book was written by DeeDee Riffe and designed and produced by Linda Barnett as their gift to Habitat of Durham as a way to commemorate Habitat's work in Durham and help raise funds and awareness for the next 25 years and beyond.

The book is a collection of profiles about people and special projects during Habitat's 25 years in Durham. The stories provide examples of caring and commitment that are transforming lives across the city. Hundreds of stories could have been written, and each story could have run for several pages. What's included in the book is a representative sample of the efforts of thousands of people.  The book lets us pause and reflect on 25 years of contributions as we move into the next quarter century of building hope equity in Durham.

The book is available for a suggested donation of $100.  Habitat of Durham receives all profits for every book sold.

About the author
Florence Clark Riffe, who has gone by "DeeDee" since age 3, is a writer who taught Journalism for 34 years. She retired as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Services in the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University, Athens, in 2007 and moved to Durham in 2008 with her husband Daniel Riffe. As a Habitat volunteer in three states other than North Carolina, she was amazed at the level of commitment that so many people devote to Habitat of Durham. She is happy to apply her Gladwellian 10,000 hours of writing practice on a cause so worthy.

About the designer
Linda Barnett is a clinical psychologist in private practice who believes in the power of stories to heal wounds and create compassionate and loving friends, families, and communities.  Her avocation is helping people tell their life stories with scrapbooks.  She is  honored to apply her skills as a consultant to the creation of this book and the continuing envisioning of Habitat For Humanity in Durham.
