Family Selection Committee

Description: This committee holds the extremely important task of reviewing prospective homeowner applications and choosing who the next Habitat homeowners will be. Occasional travel for home visits is required. The committee also needs volunteers to speak to people in the community about Habitat and how to become a Habitat homeowner. Training will be provided. Must be 21 years old.

Family Support Committee

Description: This new committee supports people during their first year as owners of Habitat houses. Tasks include: helping families with sweat equity, the closing process, dedications, adjusting to new responsibilities etc.; educating them on home ownership-related topics; attending meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from 7 to 9 pm in Durham; and arranging one person per year to speak to homeowners about some subject that they need to know (such as lawn maintenance, home decorating, wills or insurance). A minimum commitment of 12 months, a friendly personality, and a willingness to work with diverse people are essential. Must be at least 21. Some knowledge of home ownership is preferred. The Committee is chaired by Fran Langstaff, 596-8000.

Finance Committee

Description: This committee needs volunteers who have both some background and some interest in finances.

Special Events Committee

Description: This committee needs volunteers to plan fund-raising events, including the House Party in the fall, Halloween Bike Ride, and a breakfast event in the spring. Tasks include: brainstorming theme and strategies, pre- and post-event planning, event day meeting/greeting/logistics, and having fun as we increase support and funds for Habitat of Durham. A commitment of at least 6 months, a friendly personality, and a desire to further the spirit and mission of Habitat are essential.
